Obituary
Naugatuck - Maximilian “Max” Draskovic, 62, of Summerfield Street, Naugatuck, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Wanda (Bansak) Draskovic.
Mr. Draskovic was born in Seeboden, Austria on July 30, 1947, a son of the late Milan and Frida (Vester) Draskovic. He came to America with his family in 1956, resided in Bridgeport until 1972 when he moved to Naugatuck, where he made his home. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Army 158th Transport Division, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge for the M-14 Rifle. He was active in the American Red Cross Disaster Team, instructed CPR, and was a past president of the Naugatuck Jaycees. He umpired and coached various sports teams including Peter J. Foley Little League, Peter Paul Baseball League, Union City Little League, and refereed Pop Warner Football. He was instrumental in starting flag football leagues in Waterbury and Thomaston. He was an avid Yankee and Green Bay Packers fan.
Besides his wife Wanda of 42 years, he leaves three loving daughters, Amy Lee Bonito and husband Ron of Windsor Locks, Wendy Lee Draskovic and boyfriend Kevin Hodgetts of Waltham, MA, and Kacy Lee Rath and husband Dustin of Eddington, ME; two brothers, Michael Draskovic and wife Michelle of Portland, OR, and John Draskovic and wife Dawn of Trumbull; two sisters, Frida Ovchar and husband Joseph of Stratford and Marie Leclerc of Naugatuck; proud “Papa” to five grandchildren, Jamie Lee Bonito, Kellie Elizabeth Bonito, Maxwell “Max” Timothy Bonito, Samuel John Rath, and Ivy Leigh Rath; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank VITAS Hospice for the loving care they provided him in his final days. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13 at 10:30am in St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Burial will be at the family’s convenience. There are no calling hours.
