William P. Best
William Patrick Best, age 80, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Samuel J. Best and Helen Cunningham Best. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brigette E. Best and children; Susan Pedersen and her husband Alan of Middletown, DE, William “Bill” Best, Jr. and his wife Ingrid of Bensalem, PA, Terry Ecenrode and her husband Kevin of Lititz, PA, Thomas Best of Wilmington, DE and Kathleen D’Amico and her husband Anthony of Lincoln University, PA. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Samuel J. Best of Marshall, TX. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Patricia Wilmerton, Virginia Frankenfield, and Mary Best, as well as a great-grandson, Joseph VanNostrand.
Mr. Best had worked in marketing and sales with Texaco before retiring in 1986. He was a graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, Class of 1953, where he was a member of their championship Row Team. He had been a lifeguard at Stone Harbor, NJ. He was an Army Veteran, member and usher of St John Neumann Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a member of the Berlin U.S. Military Veterans Association. He was an avid golfer and member of the Ocean Pines Golf and Yacht Club.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Rev. John J. Kavanaugh will officiate. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to: Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD, 21804.
Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
