Obituary
David Rufus Patterson passed away July 2, 2009 at his home in Bradenton, FL following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born June 29, 1938 in New Castle, PA to William Rufus and Marjorie Spear Patterson. He grew up in Detroit, Philadelphia and Kansas City and moved to Bradenton in 2002 from Annapolis, Maryland.
After graduating from the University of Kansas with a BA in International Relations he joined the Navy serving in Vietnam and continuing his Navy career for twenty three years. He then extended his service to our country as Chief of The Weapons System Division of the National Security Agency until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Bradenton Yacht Club and Inlets Cruising Group. He also was a supporter of NPR and donor to the Naval Cryptologic Museum.
Dave was the beloved husband of Mary Sheila, his wife of 28 years. Other survivors include his children, Julia (Scott) Roulier, Bill Thomas, Betsy Patterson Wilson, David Patterson Jr., Denise Kessler and Daniel (Suzette) Patterson; brothers, Jeffrey Spear Patterson, William Richard Patterson and Christopher Michael Patterson; sister, Charlotte Anne Patterson; grandchildren, Sean Roulier, Peter Roulier and Hayley Thomas.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 6, at 11:00am at Christ Episcopal Church of Bradenton.
