Obituary
Rose Ann Barton Hess, 90, of Palmetto, Florida passed away June 18, 2009.
Born in Graydon, West Virginia, she moved to Bradenton in 1955 from Ansted, West Virginia. Rose was employed by F.W. Woolworth & Co. for 30 years, both at the downtown location, where she was known as ''Miss Rose'' the cosmetics lady, and at the Westgate location.
She was a charter member and strong spiritual leader at Palm View First Baptist Church in Palmetto since 1955. Her activities at church include, choir member, Sunday School Committee, Budget Committee, Nominating Committee, Outreach Mission, Women's Missionary Union & Vacation Bible School.
She was an assistant leader for Girl Scouts of America and Brownie Scout Troop 273 of Palmetto. Rose also was cookie coordinator for the North River Cookie Drive of the Girl Scouts.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Howard A. Hess, her parents, Richard & Mary Barton and 11 siblings. Survivors include her sons, Howard ''Eugene'' Hess (Martha) of Marietta, GA & Dexter G. Hess (Carol) of Palmetto, FL; daughter, Sue Hess-Fox (Tracy) of Alexandria, VA; granddaughters, Ashley Williams (Matt) of Overland Park, KS & Tonya R. Fox of Alexandria, VA; great-grandchildren, Drew Williams & Caroline Williams.
Visitation will be Monday, June 22, 6-8pm at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home. Service will be Tuesday, June 23, 10:00am at Palm View First Baptist Church with burial at Palmetto Cemetery.
